on a fishing trip two years ago, the two main guys behind africaine 808: d leyers and nomad - went to a tackle shop to buy some creepy crawlies (saltwater worms), not knowing that they were about to make a life changing discovery. in front of the shop a blind man was jammming on a little electronic organ, stomping his feet, singing, growling and basically making a scene. the boys were quite impressed with the fella, who introduced himself as blind double d . they offered to bring him home and record him. he turned the offer down, but offered instead that they could record him on the spot in front of the tackle shop - if they bought him a bottle of good bourbon. he explained that he would never set foot into a studio again in his life: he was sick of music production and the music industry in general, and that he just wanted this bottle of bourbon and to be left alone. the boys got him the bottle, and recorded blind d.d. on the spot with a tape recorder they borrowed from the tackle shop. unfortunately, the tape was stored in one of the tackle boxes over the trip, and some of the creepy crawlies crawled into the tape and stank it all up. this added some extra funk to the recording. with dirk and nomad s usual studio trickery and production skills, they created the two versions of this very very funky, creepy, stanky track. we hope you ll enjoy it as much as we do.

get physicals first delivery for 2015 is, yet again, an ep that strays a bit off the beaten track. for this last installment, gpm290, junge junge has called upon australian native kyle pearce to set some velvety vocals to a toned-down, bittersweet delight of a track. the ‚beautiful girl ep opens with its namesake creation, a thumb piano-laden tune decorated by some seriously smoky singing just waiting to transport you far away. its followed by a handful of distinct reworkings, by audiofly who take on a dub remix and spins the song on its head to give it a new psychedelic identity. meanwhile, blond:ish throws it into darker terrain only to have the ‚beautiful girl lifted up by junge junge once again thanks to a slightly different version that turns it into danceable am epic by way of some wisely-placed kicks and claps.

six months after their last installment, shir khan and exploited drop another hot to trot collection of disco edits. as usual, there is much to excite, beginning with the familiar guitar solos, rhodes keys and dub disco pulse of antilopes *singing ghost* rework. death on the balcony keep up the reverb and delay-laden dub disco theme on *addict for your love*, whose rubbery groove, twinkling pianos and heady vocals have been expertly rearranged to fit house dancefloors. finally, matpat go loop crazy on the thumping disco house cut *only you* which sits somewhere between rahaan and soundstream. excellent stuff all round.

uncanny valley and permanent vacation are joining forces for an uncanny vacation! there has always been a lively exchange between dresden and munich and both labels are known for releasing a wide variety of music so it was only natural to team up for a joint release. the record starts off with permanent vacation-regular and uk-veteran dmx krew and his “astro logical” which is as sharp and crisp as electro can go. the bass line strikes hard but he also squeezes some great melancholic synth lines out of his machines. after that, uncanny valley’s sandrow m finally gives access to the much in demand live version of “prayervan”, a tune that everybody has been singing along during his live sets. on the flipside, jacob korn (who already released on both labels) hands in “eieiei” which rises on a percussion-heavy drum basement to a discoid house stomper thanks to an irresistible sample straight from an obscure flea market find. last but not least, drvg cvltvre from the netherlands delivers a tropical house jam. “see you again” is riding on a funky disco bass line and creates a warm and cosy atmosphere with a whole bag of sound ideas. alexander dorn aka credit 00 adds his graphical talents to the record’s sleeve with a brilliant tribute to 1990s adventure video games.

like many of the greatest italo-disco records, tony espositos 1983 double a-side je-na/pagaia is ridiculously rare. put it this way: if you fancy nabbing yourself an original copy, it will make a serious dent in your wallet. this welcome reissue presents both tracks in their original 12inch glory, mixed with clubs in mind by mariano boncaldo of klein & m.b.o fame. its the a-side thats arguably the pick of the pair, featuring as it does a balearic-friendly blend of dense, bongo-laden rhythms, tribal chants and delay heavy guitars. theres a bit more of a hazy disco bounce to pagaia, which sounds a little like a long lost tullio de piscopo record, all jazz-fusion scat singing, sunny horns and shuffling rhythms.

365 million years ago a meteorite crashed with tremendous force in the middle of a land mass that much later would be called sweden, creating one of her largest lakes. the area around this lake, siljan, has always been an epicenter of swedish folklore, with many tales of beautiful but dangerous creatures of the ancient forests and deep vales. perhaps, then, it s no coincidence that the skies over siljan later became the focus of unexplainable sightings, or that small societies appeared, claiming strong indications of extraterrestrial activities on the bottom of the lake itself. the tales may change over time, but the mysterious lake remains the same. and now the time has come for a new tale from siljan. producer colleagues hans berg and johanna knutsson have spent long periods of time in a studio by this lake. feeling a bit like aliens themselves with their blinking and bleeping music machines, the label name ufo station recordings came naturally. little raver ep is the first release, and throughout the three tracks you can clearly sense the contrast between the scenic landscape and sounds inspired by space and alien technology: shimmering ethereal melodies over classic, very fulfilling drum machines. the melancholic singing of space whales over deep and bubbly analog basses. the little raver ep is a house music ufo destined to arouse wonder and astonishment on any dance floor.

jana kirschner - a child of the bear and blueberry soaked forests of the geographical centre of europe, the land locked land now known as slovakia, mushrooms, berries, and nuts were her toys, the folk songs of slovaks, roma, and the magyar, her education….. winning spandex clad dance comps at 8 years old down the local dom kulture - culture house - disturbingly garish singing competitions by 12, and early forays into songwriting via misguided western wannabe production…. the surest route to 90s era slovakian stardom. jana has changed course so abruptly so frequently in her now eight album career no one dare guess her next move, yet with muzika she has landed, and announced, here is music, a celebration, no rules, pompous, bombastic, day-glo nonsense, it could only come from central europe.

the maaskant polychoral style was a type of music of the late modern electronics and early indie eras which involved spatially separate voices singing in alternation. it represented a major stylistic shift from the prevailing polyphonic writing of the early electronic generation, and was one of the major stylistic developments of the 90s which led directly to the formation of what we now know as the pure modern style. a commonly encountered term for the separated analog choirs is cori analogici spezzati — literally, phased choirs. the a-side, featuring eyo olokun, signifies unfathomable deep grooves. that is, the instinct that there is something worth knowing, perhaps more than can ever be learned, especially this bassline that most people spend a lifetime pondering.

ayarcana returns to the scene with this release on ier records called warewolfes & warehouses illusion seekers is a burst of techno solid breeze played with a broken pattern, from the beginning to the end, there are some synth on continuous loop that just creating an illusion and a kind of hypnosis. the city of singing flames the drone track of the ep, its a trip to hell.

first up we have some seriously funked up jazz disco business here, vocals have been stripped out apart from the line searching, fierce drums and percussion, baseline is just sublime with keys to die for singing out over the top, gorgeous guitar with soaring strings, extended to keep those feet happy on the dance floor.

southern moon is the first pre single of the upcoming munk album and comes with remixes by hnny (local talk) and darius syrossian (hot creations).. with its crisp house beat, funk baseline and beautiful singing of lizzie paige this track is a shiny little summersong that makes you think of the great production of trevor horn or masters at work with a new edge.

tian gjevik (eod,cn), passionate and curious about electronic music, found in a trondheim thrift store a tape of the norwegian legendary project : the educational music -sports/tools-. he contacted one of the two composers called dildrian schrodinger. he has managed to negociate with him a deal for a vinyl license with weme records. we can find in this project ordered by the norwegian state all an experimentation work with electronic machines from the 1980 s. it is sometimes accompanied by a clumsy singing quite modern at that time.

to get things started we have a gorgeous soulful disco number, heavenly vocals, classic disco strings, brass stabs, tight baseline and the drums are pure class, tastefully extended in all the right places so as to stay as true to the original as possible, guaranteed to get your crowd dancing and singing along. on the b side we have one hell of a disco boogie funk bomb, plenty of breaks included in this stomper of a track, sharp drums, powerful vocals, funky baseline, guitar, piano, synths and some brass to boot, mix it all together and you get one hell of a party record.

corbu are an electronic, indie-rock band from brooklyn, new york spearheaded by producer and multi-instrumentalist jonathan graves. corbu are jonathan, todd hoellerman (drums, keys), amanda scott (synths, percussion), julian ferraldo (guitar, keys) and brian murphy (bass, keys). named after french architect le corbusier, the band has a strong creative aesthetic. graves writes the music from visual ideas, which he translates into sound. corbu songs are often heard partially or entirely in dreams, and are influenced by films, physical spaces and a childhood love of nature and science fiction. and it works. corbus music is beautifully crafted, taking the listener on a journey from day to night, through exhilarating sunsoaked sonic landscapes to land softly on the surface of the moon. jonathan began singing and playing different instruments at age nine, and eventually fell in love with samplers and their ability to bend conventional sounds into something abstract and new.
